Philanthropist Foster Friess passed away Thursday after a long battle with myelodysplastic syndrome, a cancer that affects the bone marrow. Friess was an American investment manager and prominent donor to Republican Party and Christian right causes. He sought the Republican nomination for governor of Wyoming in the 2018 election but lost the primary to State Treasurer Mark Gordon.
Friess and his wife ran the Friess Family Foundation, whose activities include supporting Christian mobile medical services, sponsoring Water Mission’s work to provide clean water in Malawi, and donating to relief and recovery efforts following natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the 2004 Indonesian tsunami, and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
In addition, Friess was the primary donor to a Classical Christian school, Jackson Hole Classical Academy, located in Jackson, Wyoming. Remembrance services will be held in Scottsdale, Arizon; Jackson, Wyoming; and Rice Lake, Wisconsin.
