Wildlife managers from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department trapped and relocated a subadult female grizzly bear last weekend. Game and Fish Spokesman Renny McKay explains the bear was captured for frequenting a residential area in close proximity to housing along the South Fork of the Shoshone River, southwest of Cody. Since the bear was not considered to be a threat to human safety, McKay says the bear was relocated to Fall River drainage approximately 20 miles northwest of Moran. Bears that are deemed an immediate threat to human safety are not released back into the wild. McKay stresses the importance of the public’s responsibility in bear management and the importance of keeping all attractants including food items, garbage, horse feed, bird seed, and others unavailable to bears. Reducing attractants available to bears reduces the chance for bear/human conflicts.
