Candidates for the office of Jackson Wyoming Town Council appeared at a forum Tuesday presented by the Jackson Hole Rotary Club and the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce.
Incumbent council members Arne Jorgensen and Jonathan Schechter were joined by hopefuls Elliott Alston, Katherine Rueckert, and Devon Veihman as they introduced themselves to Chamber and Rotary members. Candidate David Scheurn was unable to attend the forum.
Rotary President Jessica Jaubert asked the candidates about their views on housing, transportation, and Town funding.
One issue raised during the forum was whether it was appropriate for the Town of Jackson to build housing on the Rodeo Grounds /Fairgrounds property.
Schechter said that the Town had just extended the lease for the property to the Teton County Fair Board until 2030 and no housing would be built on the Northern side of Snow King Avenue before then. Rueckert pointed out that the town is currently in the process of putting a housing project on the fairground’s property to the south of Snow King Avenue Jorgensen said that the Town had to explore all possibilities for housing and Alston said that he supported the project on the south side of the property.
