Mayor Pete Muldoon announced on Monday that he will be running for Town Council in the upcoming election.
In a press release, Muldoon said, “We’ve accomplished a lot during my term as mayor, and I expect we’ll continue to do so over the next year. The Town Council is a great team to be a part of, and I’m very proud of the work we’ve done. Hailey Morton Levinson has been an integral part of that team, and after seven years on the Council is exceptionally well-prepared to lead the Town of Jackson as mayor for the next four years. My passion for improving our community is as strong as ever, and I look forward to supporting our next mayor and continuing our work on housing, transportation, climate change and all of the other challenges we face.”
During Mayor Muldoon’s tenure, the Town Council has completed the rezoning of much of the town, passed a non-discrimination ordinance, tenant protection ordinance, a ban on single use plastic bags (spearheaded by Councilwoman Morton Levinson), hired a community development director and a community engagement specialist, and has helped to create much needed workforce housing. In addition, Mayor Muldoon and the council have continued to make improvements on core municipal infrastructure (including sidewalks and the Snow King bike lane) and has ensured the town remains in a strong fiscal position.
Also on Monday, town councilperson Hailey Morton Levinson announced her candidacy for Mayor. Morton Levinson has served as vice mayor under two mayors and most recently since 2019.
While candidates can announce their intentions to seek office, they will have to file paperwork to make their campaigns official. That filing period opens later this spring.
The primary election in Teton County and the Town of Jackson is in August with the general election is in November.
