Poll Shows Majority of Chamber Members Oppose the 7th Cent Tax

 
The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce surveyed its membership recently to gauge support  for the 7th Cent Tax that is proposed this election and a majority of those polled say they won’t vote for it.

The survey concluded that 54% of the 167 respondents will vote no with the main reason being that the allocation of the revenue is unclear.

  • The 46% of respondents who will vote yes are doing so because they understand more income is needed and state funds will be reduced.
  • the poll showed 50% of businesses do not believe the additional tax would affect consumer spending at their business.

If approved,  49% of respondents would prioritize Human Services spending as a use for the funds
Referred to as the “General Penny,” the additional cent tax will face voters during the November 3 election. Estimates show that this tax will bring approximately $16 million annually for the Town and County
