Teton County’s Board of Commissioners and the Jackson Town Council voted to advance two capital projects despite a deficit of 20 million dollars in funding.
In voting to move forward on a federal grant for a transit facility, additional buses and other transit infrastructure, the Town and County agreed to absorb over 5 million dollars in overages.
Meanwhile, the Town of Jackson decided to move forward with construction of the Core Services Vehicle Maintenance Facility last night.
The new maintenance shop was approved by voters in 2019 as a SPET tax item.
At that time the facility was estimated to cost under 19 million dollars, but councilors were told by staff that the new price would be closer to 32 million due to an increase in construction costs.
The Town of Jackson will get the extra money by using 5 million dollars from the 2023 capital project budget, moving funds away from employee housing and parking and by loaning itself money from the water and sewer funds.
Teton County will also pitch in about 4 million dollars.
