The Jackson Town Council is set to meet tonight when they will consider the contract to construct the community’s Core Services Vehicle Maintenance Facility.
The project, which would be located on the START Bus property on Karns Meadow Drive, is the latest local government capital project to face increased costs of construction.
Originally approved in 2019 as part of the Specific Purpose Excise Tax vote, the building was forecast to cost 18 and a half million dollars. Now those costs are coming in at around 32- million, leaving a 14-million-dollar deficit in funding.
Town staff is recommending that the deficit be made up for by using funds earmarked for employee housing and also with money from parking exactions. Additionaly, the Town may borrow money from their water and sewer funds.
Recently, the Recreation Center expansion plan came in about 14-million-dollars over budget.
