Governor Mark Gordon announced plans to run for a second term during a rally in his hometown of Buffalo on Monday, saying there is still much more to do than what he has accomplished during his first term. In particular, he cited the uncertainty in the energy industry and the effects the COVID pandemic has had on the state.
During the early weeks of the pandemic, Gordon called for Wyoming residents to use facemasks which was a decision that generated protest rallies and confrontations at the state Capitol. Three months later he lifted that mandate leaving the decision to be made locally.
Others who have announced plans to run in the upcoming election are a familiar candidate, Rex Rammell and Cheyenne Truck Driver Aaron Nab. The primary election is in August. So far, the Democrats have not yet announced a candidate.
