The pandemic is causing some high school grads to rethink their plans for college. Studies show an appreciable percentage considering putting off their first year of college. Others are considering completing their first year online. For those considering attending a smaller community college where classes are smaller and housing is often off-campus, there is no better community college system than the one here in Wyoming. According to a recent study by WalletHub, Wyoming emerged as number one in the nation for the best community college systems – led by Northern Wyoming Community College District which includes Sheridan College and Gillette College in fifth place, and Casper College in ninth place among the top 20 in the nation. Central Wyoming College showed up in 25th place nationally. WalletHub also points out that during the 2019 to 2020 academic year, tuition and fees for full-time, in-state enrollment at a public two-year college averaged $3,730 per year versus $10,440 at a public four-year institution and $36,880 at a four-year private school.
